ENGINEERING
“Pedestrians and bicyclists want to go the same places that motorists do.“
The highway safety triangle model (engineering, education and enforcement) for increasing traffic safety has proven itself to be effective for many years. All three elements contribute directly to traffic safety, including that of pedestrians and bicyclists, but engineering is the first and most important step.
“We need to build our communities for everyone: pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.”
We need to build our communities for everyone – pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. Because pedestrians and bicyclists want to go to the same places motorists do – to work, to the mall, the grocery store, the bank, friends houses – proper roadway design is needed to create safe and enjoyable streets and trails for people to walk and bicycle while increasing the livability of communities. Engineering is critical to protecting these users and increasing their numbers.
Bring WE BIKE in at the planning stage to consult on trail design and assessments, pedestrian and bicycle facility recommendations and Safe Routes to Schools. Our planning and engineering services will help you integrate walking and bicycling for a healthier community.
